The English Department has instituted this award to honor talented undergraduate creative writers at TCNJ. A cash award will be given to the student whose creative work shows exceptional talent and sustained effort. To ensure impartiality, the contest is judged by a respected writer and/or editor from outside the TCNJ community. The judge’s identity is revealed when we announce the winner.

 

 

Guidelines

 

Who?                          Any TCNJ undergraduate who has taken or is enrolled in a creative writing course.

How?             Include a cover sheet with the following information:

Where?  Portfolios should be delivered to the main English office, 129 Bliss Hall.

What?   Submit a portfolio of fiction, poetry, plays, and/or screenplays. Submit at least 10 pages,

 but not more than 30 pages. Prose must be double spaced, poems should be single

 spaced. Submit your very best work and demonstrate sustained effort.

 

Submit:

·         a single-genre submission, such as 15-30 pages of double-spaced prose, or 10-15 pages of single-spaced poetry

·         a multi-genre submission, but not exceeding 30 pages.

·         If you submit part of something larger (novel, screenplay, play), please include a short synopsis

 

After You Submit:

When the judge decides on the winner/s, we will send all the entrants an email, telling them to pick up their portfolios and individual letters announcing the winner. Once all those letters have been picked up, we will put up posters announcing the winner/s to the public.

 

Deadline:

Friday, March 25 at 12 PM

in main Office,129 Bliss Hall
